2016 Season Preview

Overview heading into the season:

The 2016 season marks the Mobsters 3rd PDL season.  The Mobsters have consistently climbed in the standings and expectations for this season are no different.  With a solid group of returning players, this year’s team is sure get off to a quick start.  The Mobsters enter a newly formed PDL Division which will showcase new teams with a more competitive schedule.  The Mobsters open their season with a home game at Green Valley High School on May 7th against San Francisco City Football Club (SFCFC).  The match will be SFCFC’s inaugural game in the PDL.  The Mobsters will also face perennial powerhouse teams such as, Fresno Fuego, BYU, Burlingame Dragons (Affiliated with San Jose Earthquakes), and Albuquerque Sol.  Off the field, the Mob Squad (supporters group) have guaranteed the best pregame tailgates in the Division.  With the new intimate venue at Green Valley High School, this season can’t come soon enough!

Why you should watch in 2016:

Coach Barron has quickly brought this team together in preseason and will have the team playing an exciting attacking style. The team is comprised of several players that will be collegiate All Americans and possible MLS draft picks.  As with previous seasons, what makes the Mobsters so exciting are the talented young players that get to showcase skills.  Of course, it goes without saying the players with former professional experience will be treat to watch and will undoubtedly add invaluable leadership to this young group.  Perhaps the most important reason to watch this season’s campaign is the possibility of qualifying for US Open Cup!

3 Players to watch: 

Julian Portugal:  Technically sound, fit and consistent decision making.  He is sure to be a leader in the middle of the pitch.   

Milan Popovic:  Maybe the biggest kept secret of the Mobsters.  He has often looked like he was the best player on the field in preseason training.

Robert Garcia:  Whether he placed up top or out on the wing Garcia has a knack for scoring in bunches.  Backed by a wealth of experience this speedy forward is sure to delight the fans.  

The 2016 season will be a success if…:

  1. Their record improves from last season.
  2. They make a run into the playoffs.
  3. Produce future players while providing depth while instilling a winning attitude and tradition in those players.
  4. The fans enjoy the home games.
